GEOGRAPHY: Elongated island lying obliquely north-east to south-west, approximately 32km long and up to 11km at the widest point, total area about 130sqm.
GENERAL IMPRESSIONS: Splendid sea cliff vistas, parched, mountainous countryside, older women traditionally wear white, triangular headscarves. Not quite so accesible as the other islands in the group so tends to be less busy with tourists.
SPECIALITIES: Herbs, pastelli (sweatbread).

MAIN TOWNS: Katapola is the main port with three bays, the ferries and hydrofoilds call into the main one. Rachidi is set back from the center of the bay and Xiloderatidi is to the north where you'll find remnants of an old quater.
The Chora (called Amorgos) is about 5km from Katapola and is an inland moutain top capital for the island.
Aegiali (Aigiali,Agiali, Egiali) is the northern port for the island and has splendid beaches especially if you walk round to the end of the huge U-shaped bay.
PLACES OF INTEREST: Hozoviotizza Monastery, about 1 hours walk east from Chora. 900 year old, white, cliff hanging religious house.
