About the Greek island of Serifos
ALTERNATIVE NAMES: Seriphos, Serifos
ISLAND GROUP: Cyclades Greek Islands
POPULATION: 1,200
GEOGRAPHY: Serifos is s circular island about 8km in diameter so around 70 sq km in total. The mountains seem rather massive, old and rounded. The peaks are centrally located which combined with the almost circular shape of the outline, gives a blob like appearance. There are lots of dry river beds but very little water. Roads are fearsome tracks through the interior.
GENERAL IMPRESSIONS: Women's bonnets (koukoula), beautiful butterflies and wild buddleia, unsurfaced roads, charter caiques and flotilla yachts, Greek holiday island, winnowing

MAIN TOWNS:Livadi is the main town and port which is massive. The place is very sprawling and the rather tacky ribbon of development skirts the entire bay. The Chora (2km inland) is draped around the precipitous hilltop, spilling over and down its flanks. Megalo Livadi, 7km from the Chora, has a stony beach and very little else apart from a coupld of Kafelonia. Koutalas is 7.5km from the Chora and is a spacious bay divided by a large church topped bluff. Attractive out of the way place where you will be welcomed by tavernas but there's little accommodation.
