The Saronic islands lie south west of Athens and are well serviced with ferry and hydrofoil connections from the port at Piraeus. Aegina is on a separate route from the other destinations and this island is rapidly becoming a suburb of Athens. Poros, Hydra & Spetses are on the same route. The areas of Ermioni, Galatas, Porto Heli and Methena are reached by car on the Peloponnese mainland or by frequent ferries from the closest islands. The Greek Argo Saronic islands, with the exception of Kithira, are serviced by Athens International Airport (AIA).

Kithira is only connected by sea from the Peloponnese mainland, there is no direct link with the other islands in the group. It's far-flung position has ensured that it remains a relatively isolated location although it does have an airport that receives domestic flights from AIA.

The Saronic islands are strung out widely along the Peloponnese coast line and each has it's own character however they all share the same dry, hot summers and wet winters.

Hydra is probably one of the most sought after islands in the group and whilst real estate is more expensive than elsewhere, property not only holds its value but increases on an annual basis.

Spetses is more realistically priced than Hydra and since being abandoned by the large package tour operators towards the end of 2000, has started to become more exclusive. Good road links from Athens to the coastal town of Kostas, and a short 15 mins ferry crossing, has increased accessibility and  therefore the frequency of Greek visitors to the island especially at weekends.
