GEOGRAPHY: The island is up to 17km long and between 1.25 - 12km wide and has an area of about 95sqkm.
GENERAL IMPRESSIONS: Stunningly dramatic coastline, country lanes, churches, barrel roofs, crowds of tourists, excellent island wines, tomatoes, export of pumice stone, china clay and rock soil for cement making.

MAIN TOWNS: Thira Town is the capital and is perched high on the cliff overlooking the bay. Kamari is about 10km from Thira and Perissa about 15km away from the capital
TRANSPORT: Santorini has a large enough airport, about 7km from Thira, to handle international as well as domestic flights. The island is also serviced by ferries and hydrofoils.
