MAIN TOWNS: Tinos is the main port and bustling town with a Grecian bazaar which is strident and swarming even on a Sunday. Accommodation is plentiful and busy year round because of Greek pilgrims so tends to be more expensive than to be expected in off season. Kionia is 5 km to the north of Tinos Town that has benefited from hotel development. Ayios Nikitas 30 km from Tinos on the northwest coast was once destined for tourism but didn't quite make it. It's very quiet in the off season. Panormos 33km from Tinos is famous for the manufacture of sculptures and icons. Panormos Port 36.5 km from Tinos town is a pleasant, quiet rustic port. The north-western end of the island is mountainous with a number of little hamlets nestling there. The most renowned is Marlas, famed for its marble quarries and stone masons.
