The Ionian Islands are set off the western coast of the Greek mainland and include from north to south, the islands of Corfu, Paxos, Antipaxos, Lefkas, Meganissi, Cephalonia, Ithaca and Zakynothos.

Even during the summer it is not unusual for these islands to experience sometimes prolonged rain storms occasionally accompanied by the most spectacular lightening and thunder.
