Membership: Help - Why do you ask visitors to become members
The most important reason is to prevent inappropriate or untrue content and to hold the person who adds content think twice about what they say. We need to know that it's a real person who is adding comments, articles & images etc., to our website and not a competitor bent on invalidating our efforts or the over-zealous nuisance websites trying to flog annoying products such as pills and ... well lots of other things that just aren't appropriate for our site!
And secondly, so that we can send our monthly newsletter to people who are genuinely interested in it.
And thirdly, so that contributors and advertisers can edit/change or delete their entries which are linked to them via their member's login name. In this way they can only change their own content and not anyone else's.
Another reason for asking you to sign up as a member is so that if you contribute, the Administrator can contact you (the only person who can) if there is a query with your article//image/comment/advert, etc. that needs to be clarified, or possibly for us to request permission to use what you enter in another category or website, etc, or to request clarification before publication or to explain why we feel we must decline publication.
And finally, (but we hope it won't happen often) so that we can spot malicious entries from people who aim to misuse the site to publish vindictive, abusive or destructive content.
